HE President Adama Barrow has appointed Ebrima M. Mballow, the Governor of West Coast Region as The Gambia's new Interior minister with effect from 8th January, 2018. His predecessor, Hon. Habib S. Drammeh, who was appointed on December 4th, 2018 as Interior Minister has now been re-deployed to the Office of the President and appointed as the new Secretary General and head of the Civil Service.
Hon. Drammeh replaced Dawda Fadera, who has also been re-deployed and appointed as Ambassador to the United States of America.
In the meantime Mr Bakary Sanyang has been appointed as Governor, West Coast Region to replace Mr. Mballow.
The new Interior minister Mballow is an ex-security officer. He is an Armitage product and hailed from Basse Mansajang Kunda. He joined the then Gendermarie in 1987 and served until 1992 when he quit and joined the banking sector. He worked for the defunct BICI bank since 1992 and continued working in that sector at AGIB bank until last year when he was appointed by President Barrow as Governor of West Coast Region.
Mr. Mballow is President Barrow's 3rd Interior minister since he came to power in January 2017. The first person to hold that position under President Barrow was Hon. Mai Ahmad Fatty, who was removed and re-deployed to the Foreign Service in November last year.
