Gambia: No Charges Leveled Against Ex-dictator Jammeh’s Maid

The Gambian police have said no charges have been filed against ex-dictator Jammeh’s maid Isatou Jammeh, but has been released on bail after a thorough investigation was done on her case.

Deputy Police spokesperson Foday J. Conta told this reporter fell into the police net in the early morning hours of Sunday upon her arrival Banjul at international airport.

Isatou Jammeh accompanied Gambia’s ex-longtime ruler to Equatorial Guinea. She is among the longest serving staff of the family.

Conta further stated that the police could not allow her go through an expedited security screening. Investigators needed to know why she opted to return back to Gambia.

Jammeh lost to Barrow in Dec. 2016 presidential election that was marked by a stand-off that prompted regional forces to enter into the country for ‘democracy to prevail.’
