The agent of the State Intelligence Services (SIS), formerly NIA, posted at the Banjul International Airport has been identified as Amadou Kinteh. He is a former military officer and was trained together with Brig. Gen. Ansumana Tamba in the army.

Kinteh was seen in the CCTV footage at the airport communicating with the military Brig. Gen. Umpa Mendy and Brig. Gen. Ansumana Tamba upon their arrival in the country on January 19. He is the Officer Commanding of the SIS at the Banjul International Airport but has been suspended since on Monday, security sources say.

Kinteh being investigated as authorities scramble to know the depth of his knowledge and role on the arrival and entrance of the former top military generals of demoralized ex-dictator, Yahya Jammeh into the country, without anyone raising an alert over their presence.

Kinteh, a former military officer left the army and was assisted by Yankuba Badjie, the erstwhile Director General of the defunct NIA to joined the feared institution that is most implicated in human rights abuses and crimes against the state.

Both Amadou Kinteh and airport security officer, Lamin Jatta were shown in the CCTV footage shaking hands with the Jammeh trusted general and loyalists. Kinteh is said to be the right-hand man of current intelligence chief, Ousman Sowe and troubled former spy chief Yankuba Badjie.

Gambia’s President Adama Barrow this week ordered the suspension of Amadou Kinteh, Commissioner Pa Ndure, Deputy ASP Omar Fofana of Immigration, Chief Supt. Buba Jassey and Aviation Security Lamin Jatta as the probing into the security negligence kicks in.
