The Attorney General and Minister of Justice has given authorization to a team of six private legal practitioners led by Senior Lawyer Antouman A B Gaye to prosecute the Solo Sandeng murder case involving 9 former officers of the defunct National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

This was put to the notice of the Court after the case was called and led by prosecutor Antouman Gaye. Lawyer Gaye informed the Court that he was appearing for the State on the fiat of the Attorney General, dated on the 26th May 2017. He said the lawyers listed in the fiat are; Sheriff M Tambadou, Lamin S Camara, Rachel Y Mendy, Yassin Senghore and Combeh Gaye.

Lawyer C E Mene, defence counsel for the first accused person Yankuba Badjie, on behalf of the rest of the defence lawyers, said that they have a strong objection to the competence of Lawyer Gaye and the other mentioned lawyers, saying that the defence team will come up with a formal application to disallow such move by the State within 48 hours.

According to him, the participation of Lawyer Antouman Gaye and his team in the case will jeopardize the process of fairness and justice in the case as well as undermines the provisions of the Constitution.

Reacting to this statement, Lawyer Antouman Gaye, said that they will wait for the formal application intended by the defence after which the prosecution team will also react appropriately. He then applied for an adjournment in the circumstance.

At that juncture the presiding judge ordered for parties to file their processes and later adjourned the matter to 5th June, 2017. The accused persons namely; Yankuba Badjie, Louise Richards Leese Gomez, Sheikh Omar Jeng, Baboucarr Sallah, Yusupha Jammeh, Haruna Susso, Tamba Mansary, Lamin Darboe and Lamin Lang Sanyang, are jointly and severally charged with offences ranging from Conspiracy to commit murder, murder, assault causing actual bodily harm, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, forgery and making documents without authority.
