Brikama Area Council (BAC) on Tuesday presented a cheque of D1.9 million dalasi to GAMWORKS Agency. The presentation was held BAC’s headquarters in Brikama.
Sheriffo Sonko, chairman Brikama Area Council urged the public not to use political lens in sighting the project.
Mr. Sonko explained that inadequate capacity existed at the Brikama market for years, noting that this challenge is what the project seeks to mitigate.
He thanked president Barrow and government for their timely responds to upgrade infrastructural development at the region.
The D1.9M cheque was 5 percent contribution of BAC to GAMWORKS towards the design and reconstruction of 88 canteens at the Brikama market. Delegated Management Contract (DMC), Ministry of Transport, Works & Infrastructure, and GAMWORKS signed a D38M contract for the project.
Chairman Sonko said the commitment demonstrates their ownership of the project. Modou Jonga, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brikama Area Council said the project when completed aims to deliver a state of the earth complex with the objectives of increasing the capacity of the market to accommodate more vendors.
The auspicious occasion was graced by Council staff, Ward Councillors, representative of Secretary-General and Head of the Civil Service, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, representative of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Lands, Regional Governments and Religious Affairs, Director General and Technical Director GAMWORKS Agency.
