DLEAG arrests 3 for alleged attempt to smuggle cannabis into Mile 2 Prison

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency The Gambia (DLEAG) held three people in custody on Wednesday as they allegedly tried to sneak prohibited drugs into the State Central Prison (Mile 2) in Banjul.

The three are all Gambians, a female and two male, namely; Modou Lamin Touray, 22, a resident of Latrikunda, Muhammed Jallow, 19, a resident of Serrekunda and Oumie Camara, 20, a resident of Lamin. They were arrested when Prison officers discovered some quantities of cannabis and clonazepam in three different bottles of body lotion creams during a routine search.

They were said to be on visitation when they brought the said products for their associates who were incarcerated at the State Central Prison.

The suspected cannabis and clonazepam were said to be wrapped in nylon bags and hidden in three different bottles. The Prison officers discovered some quantities of suspected cannabis and 16 tablets of clonazepam.

In another development, DLEAG Basse Field Office apprehended one Muhammed Dahaba, an adult male Gambian and a resident of Basse with nine wraps of suspected cannabis. He was apprehended on the 11th January 2022 at Basse Badala.

In the Kanifing Municipality, DLEAG’s Kairaba Field Office took into custody Hajie Trawally and Musa Sumbundu for possession of suspected cannabis sativa. They were nabbed on the 11th January 2022 with one bundle, one wrap and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa at Kotu.

All the suspects were taken into custody while further investigations continue.
