The spokesman of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Lieutenant Lamin K. Sanyang has revealed that there is an inferno at Kanilai, the home village of the former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh who lives in exile.
According to the Army Spokesperson, he received the information from Lt Col Ebrima Krubally, the Commanding Officer at the Kanilai Military Battalion that there is a fire incident in Kanilai around the home of former President Yahya Jammeh.
“The fire started from a forest in Allah-Kunda a nearby village in Kanilai and entered through Woni, the home of former President Jammeh. This happened since on Tuesday 4 February 2020and with the help of the Firefighters stationed in Kanilai together with GAF soldiers and some residents of Woni happened to put off the fire by late nightfall, just for the fire to restart this afternoon,” said Mr. Krubally.
He made the revelations on this afternoon on The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF’s) WhatsApp page.
He further revealed that the fire is still raging and reported being out of their control.
“There have not been reports any reports of causalities so far, but some of the house including the fore houses in former President Jammeh’s compound has been gutted by the fire,” he concluded.
