There are reports that the United Democratic Party (UDP) has rescinded the expulsion of Brikama Area Council (BAC) Chairman Sheriffo Sonko, Councillors Momodou Bojang and Bilal Faal who were initially sacked from the party.
The MAMOS Media has learned that Ebrima Dibba, a prominent member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has confirmed the revocation of the expulsion of Chairman Sheriffo Sonko and the two Ward Councilors, Momodou Bojang and Bilal Faal from their party. He has reportedly made these revelations to Freedom Newspaper’s Pa Nderry Mbai, saying that the UDP had not followed the necessary constitutional stipulations in carrying out such expulsions that resulted to the party’s decision to rescind the expulsions.
Dibba has admitted that the party’s original decision was not in line with the stipulated law to expulse elected municipal officials, as the concern officials should be invited to a Central Committee meeting before expelling them. He said the party has now formally decided to invite these officials to the Central Committee meeting for their fate to be decided.
The expulsion of (BAC) Chairman, Sheriffo Sonko from the UDP has triggered a new controversy in the region. As per the Local Government Act, if one is expel from a party whose ticket you are elected to office that automatically makes you to lose your seat. But, he has challenged the legality of his expulsion, arguing that he cannot be expel without being invited before the party executive.
