As part of efforts to foster cooperation with the Port of Bissau, the Management of Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) has on Wednesday 20th January, 2021 signed an Inter Port Cooperation Agreement with the Administracao Dos Portos Da Guine – Bissau (APGB) in Banjul.
The official signing-in ceremony preceded the recent reciprocal visits of the two Heads of State of the Republic of The Gambia and of the Guinea Bissau.
The MOU signed by the two Managing Directors seeks to strengthen and consolidate mutual cooperation in the areas of training of operational staff, technical assistance, cultural exchanges and joint partnership in Port and shipping related operations. In addition, the parties resolved to revitalise coastal shipping to enhance trade facilitation among countries in the sub-region. Another key area discussed during the visit relates to the request for assistance in dredging operations at the Port of Bissau.
The six-member delegation of the APGB led by its Director General, Felix Bulutna Nandunge was in Banjul on Monday 20th January, 2021 for a three-day working visit.
While the official implementation process commences in June, this year, top officials both the GPA and the APGB are optimistic that the MOU will deepen the already existing bilateral cooperation between the two sister countries as well as enhancing Port productivity and efficiency to cater for the increasing demands of our customers.
