Following the recent arrest of Jerrending Sanyang, an official of the opposition Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) on Monday which brought a lot of chaos and noise on social media, Pa Modou Mbowe, a member of the splinter APRC executive in an interview with MAMOS Media revealed that former President Yahya Jammeh has approved for the APRC to work with the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC).

“We are not only going to surprise the nation on nomination day but we would stun and reconcile the nation on that day with our candidate. Jammeh has approved that we work with the GDC,” he said. He added that, “GDC is a son of the APRC. If APRC has a son in The Gambia it is GDC and if the APRC has a brother in this country it is still the GDC because Mamma Kandeh has been our Member of Parliament for ten good years,” he noted.

“We did not expect that the magnitude would have been like this but we leave it to the people to judge if there is democracy in this country. If there is freedom of expression and if there is freedom of the press in this country or not as far as the illegal arrest of Jerrending Sanyang is concerned,” he stressed.

According to him, this is no longer a “No To Alliance” thing but about APRC because it has been commissioned by President Jammeh who is the supreme leader, chairman and flag bearer of the APRC.

“The way Jammeh selected the former executive body is the same way he selected the new executive members. The way he was expelling people is the same way he did with the former executive,” he further said.

He added that just recently Jammeh sacked some people via an audio such as M. A.Bah, Sulayman Syngle Nyassi, Nabou Saho, Amie Jammeh and Kitim Jarju, noting that the decision stood because that has always been the protocol.

“We had solidarity from the United Democratic Party (UDP) Secretary General and party leader Ousainou Darboe who condemned the arrest that happened during our press conference. Honorable Mamma Kandeh sent a delegation that comprised of his deputy, brother and youth president to came to Jerrending Sanyang’s house to pay solidarity,” Mbowe also said.

“As the chairman, supreme leader and flag bearer of the APRC, Yahya Jammeh does not recognize the recent dissolved executive any more. It is us that he recommends as his executive body and right now he has submitted our names to the Independent Electoral Commission but whether they take it or not we will hold our congress,” he said further.
