The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has on Monday 9 November 2020, launched a fumigation machine at Banjul City Council BCC.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the McCarthy Square in Banjul, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh said the Government of The Gambia has launch the new fumigation machine to commence service.
“On behalf of the Government of The Gambia and the Ministry of Health, I hereby launch the new fumigation machine to commence service,” said Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
According to the Health Minister, the machine is meant to fumigate the villages and towns across the country to get rid of mosquitos and other flying insects. He said malaria is responsible for many deaths among children and adults in the country.
“We have seen a spike in the incident of malaria across the length and breath of the country. There is heavy downpour this year which has another sight effects in the proliferation and more procreation of mosquitos thereby increasing the infects of malaria,” he remarked.
Omar B. Touray, the Deputy Mayor of Banjul also hailed the Ministry of Health in their gesture to prevent the city from infection.
“We the ‘Banjulian’s’ are very happy to have this machine in preparation to fumigate our city. It would be easy in Banjul because we have demarcated streets. This would make the fumigation easy,” he said.
