The Public Relations Officer of the Village Development Committee (VDC) of Jarra Karantaba, in Jarra West, Lower River Region, Essa Fatty, has accused their predecessors of lacking transparency and visionary approach to register significant developments within the community of Karantaba.

Speaking to Mamos Media at his office in Karantaba on Monday 14, December 2020.

Fatty further stated that there was a big developmental gap between the current Committee compared to the previous one.

“The gap between us and the previous committee is very huge. Number one is the issue of transparency and public awareness, which was not the case before. The then Committee held meetings at the chairman’s compound, which is wrong. The establishment of online forums for the whole village to communicate effectively was not there. Annual financial reports and general meetings were not happening, and we are doing all these things now,” he remarked.

Fatty boasted that his Committee had registered vital strides with the construction of a community borehole as part of their development priorities.

He added that they took a series of reform measures to fast-track their development agenda since they took over in 2017.

The PRO said they have championed the installation of streets lights in the new settlement areas and the village cemetery.

He said the Committee envisioned electrifying the entire village.

“The other side of the village called Kassara Kunda is a newly found settlement. We have extended electricity poles to that area and the village cemetery. We also intend to extend electricity to the northern part of the village and the school as well,” he concluded
