Fatoumatta: Senator Cruz, Sen.Hawley, Trump enablers must be eliminated following insurrection and damaged oath.
Constitution, Amendment 14, section 3) reads:
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
A long time of lies, accusations, and delusion have culminated in what can only be described as an American tragedy. Even though Congress labored to certify the final results of President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory, a mob of President Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, developing in an attempt to disrupt the approach. They broke home windows, ransacked places of work, and even experienced a standoff with armed protection. Five deaths, including one female and a police officer killed. Police had observed potential explosive units. It was the most substantial breach of the US Capitol developing because the British did so through 1812.
The rioters are entitled to be billed for their crimes, but they did not act alone. President Donald Trump and Republican supporters and Senate members have been fanning the insurrection flames for months. If they never experience authentic consequences for their steps, Americans will risk normalizing future generations’ treasonous habits.
Fatoumatta: Section 3 of the 14th amendment to the US Constitution states that no elected formal “shall have engaged in insurrection or insurrection towards [the Constitution].” Make no slip-up: Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Josh Hawley, and numerous others helped incite this insurrection by subsequent Donald Trump’s lead in objecting to the election results. They supported the plan that the election was stolen from Trump, despite possessing no evidence, and invigorated his base in doing so.
Fatoumatta: By searching to overturn the election in their official capacity, they gave congressional legitimacy to a bring about that has been recognized to excite Trump’s supporters. They are complicit in the violence that occurred these days in DC. As legal professionals and Harvard Law faculty lecturer Deepak Gupta tweeted, these actions could pretty perfectly amount to a violation of the 14th modification.
Some Republican leaders realized well how harmful this objection ploy could be. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Ben Sasse called for Republicans to fall the challenge, but it failed to perform.
GOP Rep. Paul Gosar formally objected to the election success during the certification approach. He received a standing ovation on the flooring from his fellow Republicans and — because every single objection from a Property member requires to be supported by a senator — was followed by Ted Cruz.
Senator Cruz has supported Trump’s lies on election fraud for months. In the Senate, he shipped a speech objecting to Biden’s gain, saying “For individuals who respect the voters, just telling the voters, go leap in a lake, the simple fact that you have deep problems is of no second to us…that jeopardizes…the legitimacy of this and subsequent elections.” Cruz chose to obfuscate the process of democracy, figuring out that the transfer would persuade Trump supporters — many of whom experienced gathered close to the Capitol.
Shortly before the Congress meeting, Hawley was photographed waving to the Trump supporters who confirmed up at the Capitol. Those people supporters were encouraged to be there by Trump himself.
The certification procedure was interrupted by the rioters who breached the Capitol building. However, at minimum, 140 Republicans prepared to object to the benefits, actively lying to their constituents about election fraud, creating them to march on the Capitol and interact in violence.
In reaction to former Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s accusation of sedition, Cruz tweeted that “violence is erroneous.” Hawley tweeted, “the violence need to finish.” Nevertheless, these messages are way too tiny, far too late.
Fatoumatta: Moreover, though the senators at minimum tried to condemn the violence they aided stoke, Trump romanticized the rioters’ bring about, tweeting: “These are the things and occasions that materialize when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously and viciously stripped absent from excellent patriots who have been poorly & unfairly addressed for so long.”President Donald Trump, senator Ted Cruz, and Sen. Hawley should accept responsibility for the siege and resign as elected officials.
