In a press briefing held in Abuja on Monday, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Comrade Festus Osofo, made it clear that the TUC is not part of the proposed nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). The TUC emphasized that it would not participate in any process it did not agree to from the start.

Comrade Osofo urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently order the importation of food items from any part of the world within two weeks to mitigate the effects of the current economic hardship in the country.

Furthermore, the TUC accused the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank of contributing to the high cost of living in Nigeria. They alleged that the advice given by these institutions to remove subsidies on petroleum products and electricity tariffs has directly impacted the citizens. The TUC called upon the government to stop following the dictates of these international bodies.

While the TUC did not directly address the proposed NLC protest in its official recommendations and solutions to the federal government, Comrade Osofo clarified during the press briefing that the TUC was not involved in the protest.

He emphasized that any joint action requires mutual agreement, and the TUC did not agree to participate in the protest.

Comrade Osofo ended the briefing by stating that the TUC would present its recommendations to the federal government through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
